The Bible Says Jesus Still Heals Today
The Bible clearly reveals that Jesus still heals today. Healing is something I have walked in for over a decade and I want to share with you what I have learned. This is not something I just have knowledge of, this is something I have experienced over and over in my own life and in the lives of my family members.
The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:24 that Jesus has provided physical healing through His finished work on the cross.
Healing is available to you no matter what the circumstances.
Healing is who God is. His very name is Jehovah Rapha- the Lord who heals you.
…For I am the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15:26
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
The Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) and still says to you, “I am the Lord who heals you”.
God would never, ever, ever withhold healing from you. How could He withhold something He has already provided? Jesus bore your sin and took excruciating stripes on His back to provide the physical healing of your body.
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24
There’s nothing you have to do to earn it or deserve it- it is a gift. God loves you so much He died for you, and in that death, He provided healing for every sickness and every disease you could ever encounter.
Sickness is a Curse, Not a Blessing
Deuteronomy 28 clearly lists the blessings and curses of the law, and guess what? ALL sicknesses and diseases are listed under the curse.
Sickness is a curse of sin, NOT a blessing. God will never use sin to teach you something. Can you learn something through a hard time? Absolutely. But God will never send a curse into your life to teach you something. He uses His Word to teach you (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Would you put cancer on your child to teach them something? Of course not. And neither would God.
The Old Testament law given to the Israelites had curses and blessings associated with it. Any failure to obey the law brought on the curse, including sicknesses and diseases. But guess what? Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law by bearing our curse for us.
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree: Galatians 3:13
Not only have we been redeemed from the curse, we have been given all the blessings of Deuteronomy 28 because of Christ’s obedience. We have been declared righteous by the obedience of Jesus Christ.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. Romans 5:19
How Does Jesus Heal?
When Jesus was crucified, buried, and rose again, he provided salvation for mankind. Included in that salvation is healing for our physical bodies.
The word save in the Bible is the Greek word sozo which means to save, heal, preserve, and rescue. This word is related to the same Greek word that was translated “salvation” hundreds of times in the New Testament.
God’s definition of salvation includes much more than what most Christians understand.
Salvation provides for every part of our being including healing and protection of our physical bodies. Healing already belongs to you because you are saved.
“For by grace you have been saved (sozo) through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift from God…” Ephesians 2:8
…everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (sozo). Acts 2:21
Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well (sozo).” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road. Mark 10:52
…Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved (sozo)- you and your household. Acts 16:31
Wherever He (Jesus) entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well (sozo). Mark 6:56
The Bible tells us that when Jesus was scourged, it was specifically for the healing of our physical bodies (1 Peter 2:24).
In the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesied of the coming Messiah and His crucifixion:
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed HIm stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53: 4-5
The word griefs in this verse, or choli in Hebrew, means, anxiety, calamity, malady, disease, grief or sickness.
The word sorrows, or makob in Hebrew, means anguish, grief, physical pain, emotional sorrow, mental pain.
These words are translated in other parts of the Bible as infirmities and diseases, including in Matthew 8, where scripture refers to these prophecies from Isaiah 53 and says that Jesus is fulfilling them.
How is Jesus fulfilling what Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah? By healing the sick in their physical bodies.
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” Matthew 8:16-17
Does God Heal Everyone?
If we want to know the nature of God and what He will do, we look at Jesus. Jesus is the EXACT representation of God.
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, Hebrews 1:1-3
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15
Did Jesus heal everyone that came to Him for healing? Yes.
Did Jesus ever turn someone away when they came to him for healing? No.
Did Jesus make people earn healing? No.
Did He ask them to confess all their sin first? No.
I encourage you to search this out on your own. What you will find is that Jesus healed all who came to Him for healing.
There is never a circumstance where He withheld healing from a person for any reason. Jesus has not changed (Hebrews 13:8)!
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Acts 10:38
When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them Luke 4:40
And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all. Luke 6:19
And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. Matthew 14:14
But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. Matthew 12:15
Jesus is the exact representation of God, and He healed everyone who came to Him.
You can know for certain that when you come to God, He will heal you. In fact, He already has. He has given you access to the fullness of His healing power before you ever had need of it.
God ‘s will is for all to be healed in the same way that it is His will for all to receive salvation.
How To Receive Healing from Jesus
So you’ve heard the amazing news that Jesus indeed heals our physical bodies, but how do we actually receive it? How do you experience what Jesus has provided?
It is such wonderful news to discover that Jesus has made a way for us to live healthy, long lives free from sickness and disease, but unless we know how to get it operating in our bodies, it does little good for us.
To receive healing from Jesus, the first step is to believe that He provided healing for you. Believe and receive the truth that “by His stripes, you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24)
Thankfully, the Lord wants us to receive healing even more than we want to. After all, He was beaten and laid his life down to obtain it for us.
The Holy Spirit is more than willing to teach us all we need to know about healing. It all starts with opening our Bibles and putting the Word in our heart. God says that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6), so let’s allow Holy Spirit to give us the knowledge we so desperately need.
…My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… Hosea 4:6
How to Pray for Healing from Jesus
Prayer is proven to help healing, even in scientific studies. But knowing how to pray for healing is important. It is so important, in fact, that it will make the difference in the outcome.
The Bible says that the prayer of faith will save the sick.
And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:15
Again, the word save in this verse is the word sozo in the greek. Healing is a part of our salvation and is our bread as children of God (Mark 7:27).
Prayer without faith will not do you much good. It is the prayer of faith that has the power. What is the prayer of faith? It is the prayer from someone that knows healing has already been provided and there is no doubt in their heart that God wants them well.
God has already healed you, so the prayer of faith is a prayer of thanksgiving for what He has done. Look again at 1 Peter 2:24, and notice the past tense.
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24
You were healed when Jesus took those stripes. It is a spiritual reality. Already done.
The prayer of faith agrees with that reality.
You must become fully convinced of that reality so that you can pray the prayer of faith.
Plant The Word In Your Heart to Receive Healing
There are so many Bible verses concerning the provision of healing the Lord has provided. Meditate on these verses concerning health and healing.
To meditate means to think on them, speak them out loud and rehearse them in your mind.
Jesus compares the Word of God to a seed that will produce a great harvest when it is planted (see Mark 4, Luke 8, Matthew 13).
Plant what the Word says about healing in your heart so that it can begin to grow and cause your heart to produce what it says.
You plant the Word in your heart by believing it and speaking it out loud. The Word of God is the seed that will produce the harvest of healing.
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Luke 8:11
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:20
Read and pray over healing scriptures until you are absolutely convinced this is the truth regarding your situation.
Ask the Lord for a specific verse for your situation. It will come alive on the inside of you.
You can personalize the Word and speak it in the first person. For example, I would say out loud “By His stripes, I was healed” (1 Peter 2:24) I will include some verses at the bottom to get you started.
Keep Watering The Word Until It Comes Alive
The Word of God spoken out of your mouth is your spiritual sword.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17
Water the Word you have planted in your heart by speaking it out loud. Speak it every time the fear comes, every time a symptom comes, every time contradicting thoughts come.
Refuse to speak anything else regarding the situation except what your promise says. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see changes in your body right away. The seed is there and it will produce.
After planting and watering the seed, at some point it will “come alive” inside you. When this happens you will know it.
You will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you have what you are believing for and no one could convince you otherwise. You have now entered into faith and can pray the prayer of faith!
Use Jesus’ Authority Over Sickness
Now that the promise has come alive in your heart and you know you have received it, it’s time to start using your faith and taking authority over the sickness or disease in your body.
That sickness is no longer allowed in your body. Command it to leave in the name of Jesus! The thief is trying to steal your health. The thief is trying to steal what Jesus died to give you. Get mad at it!
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10
If your dog went outside, rolled around in the mud and animal poop, then ran in and jumped on your white couch, what would you do? Would you pray and ask God to move the dog? Of course not. You would speak to the dog in an authoritative voice and tell him to get out right now!!
It is the same way when sickness tries to invade our bodies. Jesus told us to speak directly to the mountain.
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Mark 11:23
This is exactly how Jesus modeled it for us. He spoke to the storm. He spoke to the fig tree. He spoke to sickness. He spoke to demons. This is where the power is. In your tongue.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21
Jesus has given us His authority to use over the things that come to harm us. We exercise that authority with the words of our mouth.
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Matthew 10:1
Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. Luke 9:1
This authority and power has been given to you as well. Once we know it, we can use this authority to arrest sickness and disease when it tries to invade our bodies. For example, we might say
“Sickness, you leave my body right now in the name of Jesus. It is written, He has borne my sicknesses and carried my pains and by His stripes I am healed.”
Speak directly TO the problem in the name of Jesus!
Enter Into the Rest
You’ve planted the seed of the Word in your heart, you’ve watered the seed until it “came alive”. You’re speaking directly to the sickness and symptoms when they arise. Now what?
As you continue to do these things, be sure that your heart is at rest. This is how you know that you are in faith. There’s nothing you must do to make your healing a reality. It already is a reality.
For we who have believed do enter that rest, Hebrews 4:3
This is a great way to know if you truly believe something. If you are speaking scripture out of fear, you are not operating in true faith.
If you are trying to make your healing happen, or waiting for it to happen, you are not in faith. Faith is when you know it is done.
You know you already have it. There’s no striving or trying to make it happen. Your soul is at rest and you speak words of faith out of that rest.
And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 2 Corinthians 4:13
We speak out in faith because we believe in our heart that the Word is true. We don’t speak to make it true. It already is.
Take some time to meditate on what God says about your healing:
