5 Signs that God Has a Calling On Your Life
Do you think that God has a calling on your life? Are there signs to watch for?
If God has a calling on your life, it means that you are set aside by God for a purpose greater than yourself. It means that God has an assignment for you, something you were created to do.
I am an adult now, but when I look back at my childhood and my life, I can see that there were always signs that God had a calling on my life, a destiny in store for me. And these signs ring true for so many others as well.
Here are 5 of those signs that God has a calling on your life:
1. You’ve Always Known God Was There
For as long as you can remember, you’ve known God existed and that He was present. Maybe you never went to Church or didn’t grow up in a Christian home, yet somehow you know that God was real.
Maybe you couldn’t pinpoint Him as God, but you knew Someone was there with you, watching over you. You can remember certain moments in your life when you just knew that Someone was looking out for you. This is because He was! God was always trying to reveal Himself to you.
The Bible says that God reveals Himself to everyone on the earth and that within the human heart is the knowing that God exists.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, Romans 1:20 NKJV
2. You Talked to God As a Child
Do you remember times as a child when you would talk to a God?
Maybe you would look at the stars at night or the trees in the forest and talk to Someone. Who was that Someone?
You might have known it was God, or you might not have. God will reveal Himself to you even before you have the understanding of who He is.
Now that you’re an adult, that Person is still there.
He’s still waiting to hear your voice.
His name is Jesus, and He’s in love with you. He knows you better than you know yourself, and He cares for you deeply.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You. Psalm 139: 17-18 NKJV
3. You Believe There’s More to Life Than What You’re Doing Now
Maybe you’re somewhat dissatisfied with your current life and know deep down that there’s more than you’re experiencing. You may not pay much attention to this feeling, but it’s always been there.
Maybe you have a good life, you’re happy, but yet there’s still that nagging feeling for something greater. This is God’s calling or destiny within you.
The truth is, you were created for a specific reason.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
Everything about you is designed specifically for a destiny created just for you. Before you were even formed in the womb, God had all your days written in a book.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. Psalm 139:16 NKJV
As you get to know God and unlock your destiny, you will discover why you are the way you are!
God will put a longing in your heart for your destiny. The eternal purpose that you were created for will gently pull at you throughout your life.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV
4. You Care About People
Is there a certain group of people that you just really want to help? Maybe it’s the poor in a certain country, or the abused, or the outcasts. Maybe it’s the rich who are in bondage, or children in unfortunate situations.
When you see these people or hear about them, something inside of you wants to do something to relieve their suffering or comfort them in some way.
This is a clue into your destiny. God’s calling always involves other people. Even Jesus came to serve others.
…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28 NKJV
Most people think that if they commit their lives to serving others, they will miss out. But that is not true! Jesus said that as you “lose” your life for the sake of others, you will actually find your life. I have experienced this first hand.
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. Matthew 16:25 NKJV
As you begin to serve and help those that God has put on your heart, your focus begins to move off of yourself and onto God and others.
I don’t know how it happens, but this kind of lifestyle is the most joyous, free life you will ever experience.
5. You Think About God
Maybe it’s when you’ve had a couple of alcoholic drinks. Maybe it’s when you’re looking in the face of your children. Maybe it’s when you’re on a long drive or watching the sunset. But during these moments, your thoughts turns toward God. You know there’s something that’s missing. Some part of you that’s reaching for something or Someone.
There is a place inside of everyone that is longing to know Jesus.
The search for significance, for identity, for pleasure, love, and fulfillment are all found in knowing Him.
As you get to know Him, you begin to experience how life was intended. A joy and satisfaction that comes from within, and no one can take away. There’s nothing like it!
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3 NKJV
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11 NKJV
Can you relate to any of these? Take it as a sign that God has a calling on your life. Start getting to know Him. Everything you could ever desire is wrapped up in knowing Him.
Once you decide to turn your life over to God, you will begin to discover why you were created.
As the Lord shows you your destiny, everything about your life will start to make sense! Your life is just beginning and it gets better and better!
