12 Incredible Realities About Your Identity in Christ
The best thing about discovering who you are in Christ is that your new identity is a finished work. You are not trying to become these things, you already are. As you embrace these incredible realities, you will begin to experience the abundant, victorious, free life that Jesus has given you.
Understanding who you are in Christ is the key to everything you need in this life. It’s the key to experiencing a satisfying relationship with the Lord. When you understand who you really are, there’s no more striving and no more insecurity. You are able to enter in the rest that God has designed for you.
1. You Are Righteous
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
You are no longer a sinner! Jesus has taken your sin and given you His righteous nature. When God looks at you, He sees you as justified, innocent, and perfect. Wow. Let that sink in for a minute. You have been completely forgiven of all sin and declared righteous by the blood of Jesus.
Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath. Romans 5:9 HCSB
You’re not working to become righteous, you already are. It was a gift. You don’t have to try anymore in your own strength to be good enough. You can simply believe the truth that God sees you as righteous and good because you are in Christ!
2. You Are Healed
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken,Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions,He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5 NKJV
Jesus took all your sickness and disease so that you could live in divine health. Sickness was never God’s plan for humanity. Sickness came into the world through sin and death. It is the work of the enemy. Jesus came to destroy the works of the enemy (1 John 3:8).
You are not trying to get healed, you already are. Just like righteousness, healing is a gift. There’s nothing you must do to earn this gift, simply embrace God’s goodness and the reality of this truth.
Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities,Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5
3. You Are Abundantly Blessed
For you are recognizing [more clearly] the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [His astonishing kindness, His generosity, His gracious favor], that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that by His poverty you might become rich (abundantly blessed). 2 Corinthians 8:9 AMP
Poverty was never God’s plan for any human being. He created an abundant world with the intention that everyone alive would have more than enough. This is the heart of a good Father; He wants His children to always have more than enough.
Jesus took the curse of poverty and lack so that you could live in the blessing of abundance. Proverbs 13:21 says that prosperity is the reward of the righteous. Embrace the truth that God’s blessing is upon you (Psalm 5:12) and you are empowered to prosper.
4. You Are Valuable
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
A masterpiece is an extremely valuable work of art. So valuable, in fact, that they are protected with the highest security measures. The word valuable means expensive, precious, priceless, and important.
You are so valuable and important to God. The value of something is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it. What was paid for you? The very life of God Himself.
For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 1 Peter 1:18-19
5. You Are Royalty
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 NIV
What makes a person royal? A person is royalty because he or she is a child of a king. God has made you a part of His royal family. The Bible says you have been born of God (John 1:13). You have become a royal member of the King’s family! You no longer have to define yourself by the natural family you were born into or the neighborhood you grew up in. God wants you to see yourself as a royal child of the King because of Jesus.
6. You Are a Joint Heir With Jesus
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, Romans 8:16-17
You don’t have to be ‘good enough’ to earn God’s promises. You are an heir! An heir inherits the goods because they are in the family. You are a joint heir with Jesus and God’s promises are your inheritance in Christ. You can enter into rest because you don’t have to earn something that already belongs to you.
You are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. Galatians 4:7 NLT
7. You Are Free from Condemnation
So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One. Romans 8:1 TPT
Jesus has given you the awesome gift of no condemnation. Condemnation is feeling bad about yourself. It’s a feeling of guilt for not quite measuring up. Anytime you have a negative opinion of yourself, you’re living under condemnation.
8. You Are a Success
Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 2 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV
You are already a winner because you are one with Jesus, the ultimate winner. Jesus defeated the enemy when He died on the cross in our place and then rose in triumphant victory. Now, God has positioned you in the place of highest honor, at His own right hand. There’s no higher success than that! Jesus made you a success. His victory is now your victory.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Ephesians 2:4-6 NKJV
9. You Are Favored
For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12 NIV
Favor is part of your inheritance in Christ. Favor means a friendly regard shown toward another or a gracious act of kindness.
Jesus causes others to look upon you favorably! He will surround you with people who think highly of you.
10. You Are Chosen
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. Ephesians 1:4 NLT
Even before God made the world, He loved you and chose you to belong to Him. Before you were even born, you were a part of His plan. He invited you to be a part of His family. When you accepted HIs invitation, you became one with Jesus.
You are without fault in the Father’s eyes because of Jesus. Jesus met the need within your heart to be loved and chosen.
11. You Are Adored
The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV
Did you realize the Almighty God leaps for joy over you with singing and dancing? Wow! He truly delights in you. You are not just tolerated, but completely and absolutely adored.
12. You Are Seated in Christ
And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together (giving us joint seating with Him) in the heavenly sphere (by virtue of our being) in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6 AMP
Something in our human nature wants to be honored and praised. We want the best position, the one that validates and makes us feel the most valuable.
There is no greater or higher position than to be seated next to the King of kings. Jesus earned this place of honor and choses to share it with you!
