5 Reasons We Know It’s God’s Will to Heal
Physical healing has been provided for us at the same cross where forgiveness of sins was provided. It’s all wrapped up in the same package.
God wants you well. He wants you well just as much as He wants you forgiven.
This is why He provided physical healing in the same way that He provided the forgiveness of your sins- as a gift of His grace through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Let’s look at 5 ways we know it’s ALWAYS God’s will to heal:
1. It’s God’s Nature to Heal
Healing is the very nature of God. He can’t help but heal, because that’s who He is.
When Jesus came to earth, He showed us God’s nature.
who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, Hebrews 1:3 NKJV
Something happens to every cell in our body when we encounter Jesus because He is healing. Jesus is the Word of God. When we encounter His Word, we encounter Him.
When you look at Jesus’s life in Scripture, everywhere He went, He healed people. He never made anyone sick. He never turned anybody down that came to Him for healing.
Jesus healed everywhere he went. Two thirds of His ministry on the earth was healing the sick. He’s still the same Jesus today (Hebrews 13:8).
Jesus is the image of the visible God.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15 NKJV
God is clearly seen through the life of Jesus.
If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. Jesus said if you have seen me, you’ve seen the Father (John 14:9).
The nature of God is to heal all the time.
2. Love Always Heals
God is love (1 John 4:8), and love always heals. God heals you because He loves you.
Jesus loved people. In the Gospels, we see that He healed people everywhere He went. He truly loved people.
The Bible says Jesus was moved with compassion, and the result of that compassion was healing the sick.
And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. Matthew 14:14 NKJV
Jesus has compassion on you when you are sick. God never intended for sickness to be a part of our existence. Sickness and diseases were brought into this world by sin and death. They are from the enemy, not from God.
Imagine if your son or daughter or a loved one was sick and you had the power to heal them. Of course you would do so. True love wants to bring healing and wholeness to a person. You may even be willing to take the sickness on yourself to see them well.
This is exactly what God did through the crucifixion and resurrection of His Son. Jesus took your sickness on Himself so that you could be made well.
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 NKJV
God has already provided healing at the cross because He loves you so much. He’s not holding out on you. Healing flows out of His love. He will never tell you no when it comes to healing, because He’s already said yes at the cross. It is a finished work.
3. Healing is His Name
Did you know that the name of the Lord is Jehovah Rapha, meaning “the Lord Who Heals You”?
God’s name encompasses who He is. The Lord is Your Healer. He doesn’t have healing, He is healing.
This name for God appears for the first time in the Bible in Exodus 15:26. God told the Israelites:
“If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you [Jehovah Rapha].”
This promise was conditional upon the Israelite’s obedience. In the New Testament, our blessing is dependent upon faith in Christ.
We don’t get what we deserve anymore; we get what Jesus deserves, if we believe on Jesus.
Therefore, the New Testament believer can take this verse to say, “Because of our faith in Jesus, God will not put any of the diseases upon us that He brought on the Egyptians.” Thank You, Jesus!
The Lord reveals Himself in His Name. His Name is holy. He is and always will be The Lord Who heals you.
4. Healing is God’s Mercy
The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. Psalm 103:2-8 NKJV
Mercy is when you don’t get what you deserve. God is overflowing with mercy. None of us deserve to be healed, but His mercy has provided what we don’t deserve.
You don’t have to be worthy in yourself to receive healing. You don’t have to act good enough or confess enough sins.
You are worthy because your sacrifice is worthy- Jesus is your sacrifice. You can be healed based on what Jesus has done, not based on your own performance.
If you had to earn healing by your own actions, you could never possibly deserve it. Thank God for Jesus! Because of Jesus, God has said YES to every promise for you, including the healing of your body.
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Corinthians 1:20 NKJV
5. God’s Word is His Will
God’s Word is His will. You may have been taught that God’s will is mysterious, and you can’t ever really know it. But that’s not what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that to be wise is to know the will of God.
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17 NKJV
We know that God does not desire for us to be unwise. We can find out what God will is in every situation by looking at His Written Word.
He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:20 NKJV
The Bible says that God magnifies His Word above His own name. This means that you can absolutely trust that His Word is true, and is His will.
I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. Psalm 138:2 NKJV
God’s Word is absolutely unbreakable. When His Word says that He desires above all things that we be in health, it shows us the clear will of God concerning your health.
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 1:2 NKJV
Jesus is the same Jesus in Heaven that He was what we read about in the Bible. He doesn’t change (Hebrews 13:8). He has provided healing for everyone, and His Word confirms this.
Jesus paid for your sicknesses at the same time He paid for your sins.
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5 NKJV
It is always, always, always the will of God for you to be well!
