Does God Protect Me From Disease?
There are more sicknesses and diseases in this world today than we could count. Does God protect His people from diseases?
Through the finished work of Jesus on the cross, God has provided protection from disease for His people.
God has always been a Healer. His very name Jehovah Rapha, means The Lord Our Healer. It is His very nature to heal. The New Covenant has made protection from diseases a reality for those who believe.
In the Old Covenant, God’s protection from disease was based on whether or not people obeyed the Law. In the New Covenant, God’s protection from disease is based on what Jesus has done for us.
When Jesus went to the cross, He took all of our sin, shame, guilt, diseases, curse, anxiety, strife, etc. with Him. He bore the sin of the entire world. For those of us who believe what He did, and enforce it in our lives, we can be free from all aspects of the curse, including disease.
Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). This means that if you are in Christ, the curse has no right to come upon you. Sometimes it is helpful to read the curse of the law found in Deuteronomy to see everything that Jesus has redeemed us from!
“If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues—great and prolonged plagues—and serious and prolonged sicknesses. Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the Lord bring upon you until you are destroyed. Deuteronomy 28:58-61
Every sickness, every disease, every plague known to man and even unknown to man were part of the curse. That means you are redeemed from every illness imaginable! That’s such good news. You have been made righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21), and the curse of sin has no right to come on your body!
Does God Protect Us From Disease?
Under the New Covenant, we can be completely protected from disease. Set yourself in agreement with what God has done by believing what He says and enforcing it on this earth through the words of your mouth.
God’s will does not automatically come to pass. It was not God’s will for Adam and Eve to disobey Him and invite sin and death into the earth, but they did. God does not force His will on anyone. We must choose to believe Him.
God has made provision through the work of Jesus for us to be completely protected from all diseases, viruses, plagues, and infections. God’s will is that we live in divine health, free from the diseases of the world.
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 1:2
He has provided for us a life of rest in our souls, where everything has been provided for us. There is no need to fear. Jesus has taken care of everything. At the whipping post, He was beaten beyond imagination to purchase the healing of our physical bodies.
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24
Jesus bore your sins! Disease is a punishment for sin. And you are no longer a sinner in your spirit. You are free! Your born again spirit looks just like Jesus.
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17
The day of judgment is the day when sickness tries to come upon your body and because of what Jesus has done, you can stand up in boldness and say “No, sickness is not allowed in my body! By His stripes I was healed!”
How Do You Ask God for Protection from Disease?
Just like all the other promises in the Kingdom, protection from disease has been provided for God’s children. But this doesn’t mean that the enemy, the devil, won’t try to bring disease on God’s children. The Bible says the devil is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8
There are some people that the devil cannot devour. These are people who truly understand what Jesus has done for them at the cross and they enforce it in their lives.
At the cross, all disease was put on the body of Jesus. The enemy has been disarmed. Disease now has no power of you. Jesus has completely stripped it of power to harm you. This is good news!
Not only has disease been put on the body of Jesus and disarmed, but you have been given authority over all disease. Disease must now obey you in the Name of Jesus.
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Matthew 10:1
Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. Luke 9:1
When you ask God for protection from disease, realize that He’s already provided this for you and thank Him for it. You do not have to wonder whether or not He will do it – He already has. Simply ask and receive what He has provided.
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:24
Believe that you receive when you pray! For more about how to receive healing from the Lord, read Will Jesus Heal Me?
What Scripture Talks About Protection from Disease?
Psalm 91 is an amazing passage of Scripture. In it, we see that protection from disease is provided. Take time to meditate and know this entire Psalm in your heart. It is power-packed.
No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; Psalm 91:10
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. Psalm 91:3
In the Old Testament, when the last of the plagues was going through Egypt, God told His people to sacrifice a lamb and put the blood on their doorposts and the plague would pass by their home. This is a foreshadowing of our Lord Jesus and the blood He would shed.
Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:13
The blood of Jesus has provided protection from every plague. When you know that the blood of Jesus has been applied to your life, every disease and every plague must pass over your house.
There are angels assigned to protect you. Angels are not weak and cute the way they are sometimes portrayed by people. Angels are mighty warriors, ready and able to defend you and enforce God’s word.
Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word. Psalm 103:20
In the Old testament, just one angel took out 185,000 enemy soldiers in one night (2 Kings 19:35). Talk about a mighty warrior! Angels have tremendous power when they carry out the will of God.
The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them. Psalm 34:7
The Bible is full of scriptures confirming the protection that God provides for His people. God is love (1 John 4:8), and Love always protects (1 Corin 13:7).
But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. 1 Thessalonians 3:3
No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen! 2 Timothy 4:18
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. Psalm 121: 7-8
You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah Psalm 32:7
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. Isaiah 43:2
But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. Psalm 3:3
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him. Nahum 1:7
Confessions for Protection from Disease
Speaking your faith out loud is how you enforce what Jesus has done on this earth. God will not force His will on you. You must choose to believe what He has done and speak it out. You are not speaking to make it happen, because it was already finished at the cross. You are speaking because you believe what Has been done.
Speaking out loud will help convince your heart of the truth. Your heart is designed to believe what you say above what anyone else says. When you speak out loud, your body and immune system are listening. Do not speak contrary to health and life. The power of life and death are in the tongue.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
If you are a born-again Christian, protection from disease is a provision God has made for you. Receive His love, receive His goodness, and BELIEVE! He is a good, good Father.
